EDUCATIONAL LIFE

Hutton Settlement residents attend the West Valley schools, a local public school district.  As a resident, each child has access to on-site academic support on the Hutton campus including daily tutoring, technology access and remedial educational services.  Residents are provided clear expectations for academic achievement, while being provided numerous resources that assist in enabling their success.  College and career services and life skills development programs are provided for high school residents and alumni in their preparation for adulthood.  Scholarship opportunities for higher education are available to graduating residents on an as needed basis.  Transitional services and alumni connections continue to be available even after a resident concludes their Hutton Settlement placement .

An education at the Hutton Settlement does not stop with formal schooling.  The Hutton Settlement seeks to develop strong character by providing on-site programs intended to build quality citizens.  Weekly programs created to address individual interests focus on engaged compassionate relationships, high expectations and meaningful youth participation, while following the 40 Developmental Assets model developed by the Search Institute.  The promotion of healthy habits, leadership development and community involvement are at the core of each of these programs. On -site programs include Salute,a service and leadership development club, the Hutton Valley 4-H program focusing on lamb care and character development, Odyssey,an adventure-based program intended to develop teamwork skills, personal resiliency, and environmental awareness and the Creative Arts Studio, which provides an opportunity for our young artists to explore, imagine and create.
